Most of our range is meant to drop down as a pendant. This one is built the opposite way: low, wide, and curved like a shell or a crescent moon, so it works as a semi-flush ceiling fixture in rooms where a hanging pendant would sit too low or get in the way — a hallway with a low ceiling, a walk-in closet, a covered veranda.
The wide, flat form spreads light broadly across the ceiling and upper walls instead of pooling it downward in a tight cone the way our taller, narrower shades do. It’s a different kind of light entirely, not just a different shape.

Is this a complete lamp, or just the shade? Just the shade. It ships as the woven fixture only — no cord, socket, or bulb. Because it’s meant for flush mounting, the electrical fitting differs from a standard pendant drop; tell your electrician it’s a semi-flush ceiling application.
Can this be hung as a standard pendant instead of flush-mounted? It can be hung on a cord, but its flat, wide shape reads better close to the ceiling — hung low, it looks more like a lid than a lampshade. We’d steer you toward one of our vertical shades if a hanging pendant is really what you need.
Does the flat shape limit brightness? It spreads light sideways and upward more than it throws it down, so it’s a better ambient/fill light than a task light. Pair it with a stronger downlight if you need focused brightness in the same room.
